Epidemic of restlessness
Dr. Debanjan Pan
Who says epidemic is only restricted to infective illnesses only ? Have you ever taken account of the number of times you had been exposed to the virus of restlessness in your daily life? As a matter of fact, I’m intentionally using this term ‘virus’. No, it doesn’t mean an organism potentially virulent enough to infect . But it does affect and kind of spread like your flu , well beyond your awareness. Some social behaviors are truly contagious. Like your sneeze or may be your anger or maybe your urge to pee or perhaps your restlessness. How many times you’re shoved in the queue to your bus on your journey back home from your office and you matched the same elbow by elbow? Have you ever wondered why you too got up from your seat just by seeing other fellow passengers had done the same even if the plane was just taxing and the seat belt sign was still on? You had forwarded one long video of fantastic belle dancing to this smart friend of yours and whoosh….well before you wanted to close it down, it’s already there….’liked ‘with an appropriate emoji and now, you’re smarter with the experience and have done the same thing to another friend of yours . It’s super easy, just skim through and you know in essence what exactly is the content and why wait for the video to be finished? Respond fast. You don’t have all the time in the universe. Makes sense. There’re other posts waiting in the groups needed to be addressed with your smart remarks. See, I told you, restlessness is the key. And it’s infectious. Busyness is the business here, I mean, the only sure shot survival mantra and you just can’t lag behind. So you too are in the loop, whether you know it or not. Your sneeze travels fast with an average speed of around 100mph . Make no mistake, your restlessness too spreads no less fast. Just look around, we’ve truly become one frenzied, insanely restless nation. Or perhaps should we take this a little further, this epidemic has gripped this entire universe together, in unison. United we stand in our infectious restlessness. Why blame ADHD children then ?
